A Week on the Gulf

A March 2003 trip to Navarre by Isalyn

The resort was on the beach. When you sat on the couch, you were looking at the Gulf - nothing more beautiful. The resort could use some tender loving care, but the people were very friendly. Driving west was the most beautiful sea coast area I have ever seen. Cocodries Rest. is highly recommended.

Drive west along the coast in Gulf Shore Islands Park and enjoy the view. If you want more action, spend time in Pensacola Beach, but a don't miss is Fort Pickens at the end of the island. If you want to make a day of it go across the Pensacola Bridge and on to the Naval Air Station, there you find the museum and Fort Barancas. Also, this time of the year, the Blue Angels call Pensacola NAS their home. The only thing is if you are going soon, be prepared to spend a little time getting your car searched to get on the base. Make sure you spend time walking the beach and finding some nice shells. If you are lucky, like we were, we had a natural dolphin show one evening. My husband and son saw a manta ray while boogie boarding.

Quick Tips:

Plan your day accordingly to eliminate too many tolls going across the bridge. To get your groceries, go right across the street from the bridge to Winn-Dixie.

Best Way To Get Around:

Best Things Nearby:
Fort Pickens and Gulf Shore Islands Park.

Best Things About the Resort:
Right on the beach.

Resort Experience:
Great views. Decent size. Two queen beds in the bedroom and a sofa sleeper in the living room. Small balcony and kitchen. Needs some TLC.

Restaurant

Great reasonably-priced food and wonderful views. If you go on a Friday, make sure it''s early or you have reservations.

The food is heavy on seafood, but does have a few meat and chicken dishes.

The decor has a New Orleans appeal with light jazz background music. The tables are set with linen tablecloths and napkins.

It''s a great place for a night out, but probably not conducive to young children. Dress is casual attire/business attire.
