When our daughter and her friend came to stay from the UK they wanted a day at the beach. We have quite a few beaches within an hour drive and chose to take them to Cobourg as not only is there a beach, but a lovely little town too.
The beach area is lovely with a large sandy beach and clean fresh water. It is literally fresh as it is lake water and not the sea, although you would never guess by looking at the stunning views. The water is also quite shallow until a good way out, so pretty safe. There are washrooms close by as well as a cafe which sells fries, hotdogs, chips, ice cream etc.
If you get tired of the beach you can walk along to the harbour area and see all the boats and the beautiful condos on the waterfront. Walk a little further west and you get to another beach. This one is a pebble beach and not so popular, but it is lovely to walk along and you will often find wind surfers etc here.
The town itself is also worth visiting. It is five minutes walk from the waterfront and there are lots of lovely little shops to see as well as an abundance of coffee shops.
Depending on when you visit the beach can get crowded and sometimes they have events on which may or may not suit you. But it is a lovely place and definitely worth a visit.
