Quote: My wife and I stayed at The Scotsman hotel on our return from Edinburgh from our honeymoon as one last treat to ourselves before getting back to reality. Having used their Spa facilities before, we were really looking forward to our stay and we weren't left disappointed.

Situated on the Bridges, sitting in the heart of the city, about a 5 minute walk from the East end of Princes Street the hotel is in the ideal location for accessing the City Centre and it's also a stone's throw from the Royal Mile and therefore the Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Parliament.

You are in very close proximately to Waverley Train Station, which is also where the Airport Bus Terminates making the hotel very easy to find and get to if you are visiting the city.

The check-in process was excellent. The staff on reception were both friendly and helpful and we were in our room within 10 minutes of arriving at the hotel. Our bags were brought up to our room by a very friendly porter. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the members of staff that we came into contact with during our brief stay.

As the building is very old, the hotel and rooms have bags of character, which I felt made for a very romantic setting. The hotel does come equipped with all the mod-con's you would expect from a 5 star hotel. There was a TV and DVD player in our room, with a vast array of channels to choose from.
The room was decorated very tastefully and the bed was nice and comfy.

Our bed was turned down for us, which was a nice touch and room also came equipped with a hairdryer, trouser press and a safe for storing your valuables.

The hotel's restaurant, North Bridge Brasserie, was where we ate that evening and the food and the service we received was excellent there too.

Quote: This is NOT the experience you would expect from what is supposed to be a grand hotel. Decorating is laughable. We had two non matching (diff style, diff color) pull out bed sofas... next to each other along the same wall as our bed (Really!). Ironing board was perched against wall opposite the two sofas along with two little 8x10 pictures. Sound 5 star to you? We stayed in the Publisher's Suite! The bed was horrid. Two huge depressions, made it impossible to get comfortable. The TV faced the bed... and was about 6 feet in the air and doesn't tilt downward. Stained industrial looking carpet, No AC, No Fans, No screens, No protection from falling out of windows that would open from almost the floor to 6 feet fully opened. All night... sirens, ppl partying, cars honking... Sheets were stained, yuck, asked for new... they came up and remade bed with the old sheets. Dining areas are in basement with low ceilings white leather, not edgy, but very clich?d "modern" look. If you are looking for something memorable, romantic or chic... this isn't the place. We couldn't stand it and left before our reservation ended! The high point is that the staff was very pleasant!
