Whether you're touring its grand palaces and temples, or bargain hunting through its markets and malls, you'll find no shortage of ways to fill up your days in Bangkok.

Sightseeing is a great way to take in all that Bangkok has to offer. Pay a visit to the Grand Palace, the former home of the Kings of Thailand since the 18th century, and check out the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on its grounds. The 81-room European style Vimanmek Palace (Vimanmek Mansion) is a more recent but no less impressive former royal residence, also open for tours.

Bangkok's temples are some of its primary sightseeing highlights. Take in the massive Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), or climb the central prang (tower) at the Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). A host of smaller temples and other artifacts are in permanent residence at the Ayutthaya Historical Park, home to the ruins of the historical city of Ayuthhaya.

Bangkok isn't all temples and palaces however -- it's also a shopper's dream, boasting robust markets and world-class malls. Retail mavens will enjoy a trip to the 8-story mall at the MBK Center, or an afternoon spent in Bangkok's central shopping district, Siam Square. A trip to the Chatuchak Weekend Market is a whole different experience. The largest market in Thailand, Chatuchak's 5,000 stalls are spread out over 35 acres, drawing over 200,000 shoppers a day.
