Great Mango Daiquiris Too!!

Everyone like to harp on the point that this place is the "Home of the Pina Colada". Well don't let that stop you from trying some of their other cocktails. The Mango Daiquiris are to die for. They are served to you in a tall frosty glass, and I must warn you no matter how hot you are, or how thirsy you may be, do not take it all down in one sizable sip. The drink is delicious and potent. The food is also worth the trip. I've been to Barrachina on a number of occasions and I've yet to find any inconsistencies to speak of.

Fantastic dining! We gorged ourselves here on native Puerto Rican food. Make sure you get plenty of Pina Coladas - this is the home of the Pina Colada. The atmosphere is great, the restaurant has no roof and you feel like you are in Europe. The service here is also excellent. Enjoy such native dishes as chorizo and fried plantains...just don't eat too much! The food was so good yet so heavy that I threw up later.

This is one of the so-called birthplaces of the piña colada. They give out free samples to anyone who walks to the back of the restaurant. Take a free sample, but skip a meal. We dined here with some friends who are locals. They explained what the dishes were supposed to taste like when prepared properly. After eating some hard plantains (they're supposed to be soft), I actually started to have stomach pains. I managed to stay at the table for the rest of the meal, only to taste some very dry chicken. This is more of a tourist trap than a good restaurant.

Barrachina's is a good place to go for local Puerto Rican fare. Also, it is the birthplace of the Pina Colada. With this in mind, there can be a lot of tourists there, especially during the day. Go for a later dinner, and you may well be one of only a few occupied tables. The entree was about $15 to $18 while a pina colada was about $6. And let me tell you, I don't like Pina Coladas, but I got one since this place is "famous"-it was WONDERFUL.

Try the Chicken Mofongo! And if you're lucky, Carlos will be your waiter!
