Market Place Buffet

We ended up having to eat here everyday because we purchased a meal plan (which everyone recommends, as do I, because their food is WAY overpriced.) The only problem was that we went in the middle of the hurricanes; I think Ivan had just passed and Jeanne was on the way. So the resort was pretty empty, the majority of the restaurants were closed, and that was the only one open on our plan, so beware of that.

Another thing that bothered me to no end was that the far side of the restaurant smelled putrid. All I could smell the whole time was mildew. The food was okay. My husband really liked the Mongolian-style grill. I didn't think anything was very special, at least nothing worth the $95 a meal we paid.

We also woke up late. Being from California, the 3-hour time difference was difficult to get used to and we just wanted to kick back. Consequently, we always missed breakfast, which was served until 11am or 12:30pm depending. Also, lunch is not included in the meal plan, which wasn't good for us because that was actually our breakfast. A lot of people say that they don't eat lunch when they're at Atlantis, but if you're going to be a late-riser, then you should take that into consideration before choosing to purchase a meal plan and call up the resort to see if you can find out which restaurants will be open during your stay.

The meal plan was not economical for us because the other restaurants were closed, but had they been open, it would have been a great idea.

We splurged on the Marketplace breakfast buffet the first morning of our vacation to Atlantis and had a wonderful meal. The food was very varied, bountiful and fresh. All the breakfast usual fare plus a few Bahamian fish specialties, corned beef hash, made to order omelets, breakfast pastries, fresh fruit, etc. We went with our children, ages 2 and 6, and it was completely child friendly. They appreciated the waffles with berries and whipped cream and the chocolate milk. There was a short line to get in (about 5-10 minutes), but no reservations were needed. We were seated promptly, with a highchair, and upon hearing our 6-year-old exclaim he needed the potty, one hostess actually walked him there and waited and walked him back to our table! Overall, it was a great meal - much nicer than a standard breakfast spread, but breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child (the 2-year-old ate free) cost $56! A nice splurge once, but we certainly couldn't do it every morning. I believe the dinner buffet was about $45 per adult and features international foods, but we didn't try it.

This is a buffet with a lot of choices. The food was very good, but the place gets crowded when it opens because people line up to get in. It seems more crowded here than at the other two buffets on site.

The Market Place Buffet was a bargain at $20 for either a breakfast or lunch buffet. All types of cuisine were available and all of the food was excellent. We did not choose to eat at Sea Grapes Buffet as it was geared more toward families and children. Both buffets were comparitively priced with Dinner costing $40. The staff at the Market Place could not do enough to make your meal enjoyable.
