We got to Memphis and wanted some local food. The hotel (Embassy Suites down the road) recommended this place, and we got the best ribs, beans, pulled pork, and pecan pie for just 15 bucks. I would definitely recommend this place if you are staying in Memphis.

They have great barbeque, a Memphis tradition. It is now a regional chain restautant, but the original location is still the best. The lobby of this original location is covered with photographs of athletes, celebrities, and Presidents who have dined here. It is served with buttery bread. Many people choose the onion loaf, which is like a Bloomin' Onion in loaf form, but it is too greasy for me. I always get the pulled-pork plate. The ribs are tasty- you can get them wet or dry, and many people like the BBQ spaghetti. Plan on a short wait if you go at dinnertime. If you really like it, you can get most of their entrees at the grocery stores in town, or they will FedEx it to you.

If you are looking for wet ribs, Corky’s is the place to be! Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find a parking spot or if you have to wait a bit; it is well worth it! The food is wonderful and pretty reasonably priced.

Start off with their amazing rolls, but leave some room for the rest of your meal. If there are two of you (or you can be evenly divided), I would suggest getting the ribs platter for two. This is the best bang for your buck, and there is more than enough food for two! The sauce for their ribs is what keeps people coming back. It is sweet, tangy, slightly hot, and put on everything. If you don’t think that there is enough on the ribs, there’s a bottle of it on the table--just keep slathering.

In addition to the ribs, the pulled-pork sandwich is wonderful. The meat is tender and the sauce well worth the trip. I have also had the BBQ shrimp, and they are a good alternative to anyone that doesn’t eat meat but may eat fish! Also, splurge on the fries; they are great dipped in the BBQ sauce.

If the line is too long, go through the drive-through, and you will have the same great food! Take your BBQ as a picnic lunch down to Mud Island, overlooking the Mississippi, and you will understand why people love Memphis. I have also used them for catering, and their food is just as good in mass quantities as it is coming to your table.

We went to two Corky's locations - the one on Poplar Avenue (we loved our waitress, who is featured on their brochures) as well as the one at Memphis Airport. I have to say that we preferred the one at Memphis Airport - for some reason, their pulled pork sandwich was just a bit better than the one I had at Poplar Avenue. Their coleslaw is to DIE FOR and I ate not only my portion but my husband's as well. Great service, EXCELLENT BBQ, and definitely a must!

Hmmhmmm! Yum. Nothing is better than Corky's BBQ sauce. Located in a small building with very limited parking, the wait can be huge. No reservations, so everyone waits the same. I discovered, however, that if you arrive around 5:30 or 6pm, there is no waiting, even on a busy Friday or Saturday. The meat is slow cooked to the point of melting, but service is so quick and friendly that you don't have to salivate for too long.

My favorite is the shredded pork sandwich with coleslaw on top. It's served with beans and thick yummy fries with a glass of lemonade. If you are going with a large group, try the onion loaf. This solid loaf of onion rings mooshed together is so large that even a half loaf would feed four. The best thing is to come hungry and be ready to get messy. Believe me, you won't mind the mess.
