The New York Times called this restaurant "The World's Most Decadent Breakfast", and I'd have to agree. First off, the menu is huge. They offer Dutch pancakes stuffed/topped with any sweet or savory ingredient you can imagine. They also serve more traditional breakfast fare, but if you pass up the opportunity to have one of their Dutch pancakes, you're really missing out!

The pancakes were huge, falling off the plate huge! I couldn't come close to finishing mine, and my fiance just barely got through three quarters of his (and believe me, he has a very hearty appetite!)

What was most surprising and pleasing to me was the wide variety of options for vegetarians. They had veggie substitutes for every breakfast meat that they offered. I was able to get a huge Dutch pancake stuffed with tons of cheese and veggie bacon.

The food was delicious--seriously, it was so good that it had me considering moving to Vermont just so I could eat there whenever I felt the urge! The coffee was delicious and from a local company, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

The service was friendly and fast. I'm sure that the servers are always amused by the faces of the patrons who gasp (like we did) when they see the size of the portions!

If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Stowe, I highly recommend stopping by this very family-friendly place for breakfast! I still wake up some mornings thinking about the breakfast I ate there!

On the morning we were heading out of town, we stopped for breakfast at Dutch Pancake Cafe, located in the Grey Fox Inn. The selection of pancakes is amazing. They have normal buttermilk pancakes, but their specialty is a thinner Dutch pancake that isn't as sweet, which lends itself to the addition of other toppings/ingredients. They offer about 80 varieties. My selection was pineapple and almonds. The pancakes are huge (about 12 inches wide), but since they are thinner, they are manageable. The service was slow on the day we visited, but there was a large youth group dining at the same time, which may have contributed to the delay. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, the food good and unique, and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys their breakfast. The menu can be found at: http://www.greyfoxinn.com/dining/.

Mouth-watering pancakes at the Dutch Pancake Café

We had to wait a bit before this restaurant opened up but it was well worth the short wait. I had read a little about the restaurant but I was not prepared for how delicious the pancakes would be.

What is a Dutch pancake? We found out a Dutch pancake has a special recipe than the recipes you may use at home. In addition, the pancakes are prepared in a Dutch skillet. Each pancake is large since the size of the skillet is 12 inches in diameter. Of course, you could order "plain" Dutch pancakes, but most people will spend quite a long time looking over the menu to decide which ingredients to add. I, of course, knew from the beginning chocolate would be one of my extra ingredients. For less than $9, I got the most delicious banana chocolate pancake! My husband was just as happy with his apple blueberry pancake.

After eating at the Dutch Pancake Café, I can understand why the breakfast was reviewed by the New York Times as "the world's most decadent breakfast". Make sure you take some time to stop in for a great breakfast.

A great breakfast or brunch spot with large Dutch-style pancakes and, of course, eggs, regular pancakes, and other regular breakfast foods. The fun pancakes can be filled with so many different fillings - sweet ones like berries or peaches or even ice cream and toppings, or "savory" toppings like leek and potato with sour cream. We went twice - one morning I had a Vermont cheddar and bacon pancake, the other morning, it was potato and onion. Great kids' menu.
