Hola and Adios Cancun

An April 2004 trip to Cancun by telisha

Quote: We decided to go to Cancun for two weeks and stay at two different resorts. The first one was the Fiesta Americana Cancun for one week and then a week a Golden Shores Crown Paradise Club.

Quote: We traded our timeshare and received a two-bedroom/two-bathroom suite. The suite had a door that could be closed off to form a separate one-bedroom unit. It was large and very clean. We had rooms that overlooked the pool and the ocean. The room smelled a little musty. Maid service is $3 a day.

There were two restaurants and two bars at this resort. They food was very good but limited on variety. Drinks were a little pricey, but good. The breakfast buffet was very good, but we ate there twice and paid a different price each time. The resort is right across the street from a smaller mall, which has everything, and lots of places to eat. We found a Philly cheese steak place that served $1 beer and soft drinks. The sandwiches were really good too.

This resort will give you the true Mexican flavor to your vacation. It is done in the traditional Mexican colors and ambience.

Quote: This is truly a cruise ship on land. It is all-inclusive resort, which is nice. You have a varity of resturants to eat in and the shows are really good. The beach is beautiful and rooms were clean.

Restaurant

Quote: This restaurant is located at the Golden Shores Crown Paradise resort. We dined there and were really impressed with the food, service, and the view. It is right on the beach, overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea.

We ordered the spring roasted chicken and it was really delicious. The desserts are really showpieces and very good.

Attraction

Quote: We booked an all-inclusive tour with Daniel at the hotel. He was really helpful and we really enjoyed out tour. Cancun Tours was the name of the company we booked with. Our bus picked us up at the front of our hotel. We had an air-conditioned bus, with breakfast at tables on the bus. Breakfast was sweet rolls, juice, and coffee. All throughout the trip we had unlimited drinks and water at the ruins.

The ruins were really something to see. I have great respect for the Mayan people. I think we could have learned from them in our culture today. Everyone in our party really enjoyed the tour.

Attraction | "Snorkeling"

Quote: We booked this trip through Daniel at the Fiesta Americana Cancun Hotel. It was one of several different ones you can book. One of our party didn't want to snorkel, so we didn't book the all-inclusive one. We still got one that included round-trip transportation, breakfast, lunch, and beach activities. The trip cost $45 per person.

We really enjoyed the snorkeling. They take you in a boat off around the island and drop you off. You then follow the current around the island; all the while the boat is following you, so you can always get on board if you get tired. The current carries you along, so you really don't get tired.

Attraction | "Xel-ha and Tulum"

Quote: We visited the ruins at Tulum and were very impressed with the way the Mayans set their city up. It is on the coast with only the one seaport with walls surrounding the other three sides. We had a side trip to Xel-al and didn't get to spend enough time to tour the ruins. I would recommend that if you plan a trip to the ruins at Tulum, allow time to see them properly.

Our tour guide was named Paco and he kept everyone on a schedule. He even left some people at Xel-al who got caught up in shopping. Xel-al is a natural aquarium where we went shorkeling and is one of the prettiest places on the tour. If you go, try to make time for the dolphin shows and snorkeling.

Quote: We decided to take a two-week vacation in Cancun. We live along the Texas border and didn’t really know what to expect. It was a unique experience. The Hotel Zone of Cancun was really pretty with mega resorts and beautiful beaches.

For our first week, we stayed at the Fiesta Americana Cancun. If you want the ambience of Mexico, I would recommend it. It has the Mexican colors throughout and is very laid-back. There were not a lot of people staying there, so it was very relaxing. The beach is nice and we watched the pelicans feed every day. We had a two-bedroom two-bathroom unit. The second bedroom could be closed off from the other unit. It contained a microwave, small fridge, and dishes. The units were both spacious. The rooms overlooked the pools and we had a great ocean view.

We ate at the two restaurants. The food was good, but limited in variety. The breakfast buffet was really good with lots of choices, but the prices changed on us daily. The tours we took, we booked with Daniel, who has a desk set up in the lobby. We felt we got some really good bargains.

Quote: Our second week in Cancun, we decided to try out one of the mega resorts in the Hotel Zone. We exchanged for a week at the Golden Shores Crown Paradise Club. We got a two-bedroom two-bathroom unit. It was on the end overlooking the ocean. You could open your patio doors and let the sea breeze in if you so desired.

We also overlooked two pools. The resort has five of them. They have steam and sauna rooms, an adult pool, a kiddie pool, and several other pools available. The check-in desk is all open-air. The beach is clean, and chairs and umbrellas are provided. I would recommend this resort for anyone.

Every other night, they let some local vendors come in to the main lobby and set up tables to sell their stuff. One man really impressed us -- he used paint in spray cans and made some of the prettiest pictures. It is amazing how he could paint with spray paint. There are shows every night from 8 to 9pm. There are babysitters available for those with kids and a really good kids’ program.

There are five specialty restaurants. We dined in a different one every night. During the day, you can eat at the large main restaurant or the Japanese restaurant -- both are good.
