Can't Wait to Go Back

My daughter (24) and I met up for a quick weekend visit. Hotel and activities are much better than expected. I booked a marina room and was delighted with the view and the availaibility of things to do. Rooms are fine, clean, roomy, with beach towels and robes provided. Avoid the family restaurant, the Blue Pearl, which was overpriced, service was slow, and food just ordinary, but otherwise I highly recommend the Dana for location and amenites.

Great Location

We had a wonderful time at The Dana for our anniversary. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The concierge helped us plan day trips and make dining reservations and had very good recommendations. Public transportation was also very good. The bus and trolley system was cheap and brought us to many different locations. We walked across the street to Sea World, but the hotel offers a free shuttle service. The beach is within walking distance too (about one mile). The only bad thing I can say is that the upgrade to the Marina View room isn't quite worth it. If I could do it again I would upgrade to the Bay View room with the patio.

Good location on Mission Bay

The Dana is really two different hotels. The new wing recently built has beautiful rooms with a view of the Bay and a spacious modern feel, and is closer to the main pool, lobby, and firefly restaurant and bar. The older rooms around the kid pool have a more run-down motel feel. They are a bit dark and musty, although they are fine. On the positive, the hotel rents bikes and it's an 8 minute bike ride to Mission Beach and the boardwalk. The staff are very friendly, especially around the pool. So advice is this hotel is a good pick if you can phone and request a new-wing room, or if you're ok with the risk that you'll end up on the older room side. The Blue Pearl budget diner on the edge of the parking lot on site is mediocre at best, and it's the only option for breakfast on property as Firefly only opens for lunch. Avoid it unless bland food is your thing.

BEAUTIFUL VIEWS

This hotel lived up to the pictures of the view of the bay. You must pay for the premium room to get these views, but it was worth it. We walked right out from our patio to the bay every morning and walked along the water where we saw seals and birds, and then walked past the harbor. The pool and spa were great. Paying extra for parking is always a bummer-but just know in advance so you're not surprised.

Great Family Friendly Hotel with scenic views

I stayed with my 9yr old son in Early April for his Spring Break. We had a great time. The property was beautiful and the Marina was so scenic and beautiful. The rooms were basic but with a flat screen TV and a nice size fridge where you can get some quick items like bottled water to keep in your room. Also there is a microwave which is perfect for heating up restaurant left over. The restaurant Blue Dolphin was very nice. The breakfast was great. I loved breakfast which was causal and very friendly. I would recommend renting the pedal boats for the hour. Its $20 for the hour but worth it for a nice ride out. The pools were very nice and fun for the kids and adults. Both had nice size hot tubs. There is also a coin laundry on the premises should you have an unexpected need as I did. The hotel is located right on the bus line to go to some sites. Very easy to get around. I would go back again. My son loved it and it was very safe. I never felt any concerns at all.
