This was a very nice place for the money. The staff were all very friendly, the beach was nice, and the facilities were super clean and well maintained. The buffet was good and we found the Italian resturaunt to be very nice. Tips are not expected by the staff, but they do appreciate them. They have the electronic safes in the rooms that you can rent for $2 per day. I felt or stuff was secure in there.
A couple of cautions - realize that the conciere is working for the "vacation club' sales office that is in the hotel. Nice guy, but he will try hard to get you to sit through their presentation. Don't be afraid to say no if it isn't your thing.
The other caution is DO NOT book the ground transport Travelocity tries to sell you (Olympus Tours). They refused to give me the return ride I paid for because I refused to meet with their sales rep to hear about whatever they were selling. Just to be clear, Olympus is not part of the Park Royal, but I wish I had been warned of this. Take a cab, it is the same price and a lot quicker.
Once we got over being upset about the ground transport hassle we had a great time at Park Royal.
Great Resort poor experience with Travelocity

Had a great time Cancun is fantastic, resort was a good bang for the $$ we have stayed at resorts where we were more pampered but we also spent a lot more $$. If you are expecting carpeted halls, coffee makers and irons, don't but that is like so mexican resort. Staff was very friendly, we had a riot with the pool activity director. Wet & Wild is a great spot to go with the family and real good food. Catch the ruins go in an upgraded tour it is a long drive. the food at the resort was typical mexican buffett it does get old, by the time you leave. they do not have waiters for pool & beach, but once you know that just go to the bar and you can have you want. carefull on the shuttle we booked through online travel website and the shuttle did not pick us up for the return trip to airport, had to take a taxi, which was cheaper than the shuttle anyway $25.00 one way.Online travel website is giving me nohting but a run around in getting a refund for half of the booking on the shuttle even though they charged twice what it would have cost to take a taxi! Use another service, but enjoy the hotel.

Overall it was okay but they haven't quite figured out how to be a really nice place yet. Upside: The Presidential Suit was terrific - good size and with a very large balcony w/ hot tub + two wide screens, afull bath + a 3/4 bath. The Italian restaurant was great, both in terms of
food and ambiance - a classically trained cellist played and took requests. Pool facilities were very nice, location was great, and the beach is wonderful. They have lots of activities so this would be a great place to take kids (I went with my girlfriend). It's a beautiful looking facility and the 24 hour convenience store is handy. Downside: No king or queen beds here - either scrunch into 1 bed or put two together. The food was okay in the main dining room but it reminded me of a food court / cafateria at a decent mall - harsh lighting, tons of echo. Lots of echo at the pool bar as well, a function of all the tile and glass, no doubt. The Italian place only accepts reservations between noon and 3:00. Even if they have empty tables, they will NOT accept a reservation outside those hours. Oddly, they use an industrial buffer to clean the outside brick walkways but do not bother to wipe down table tops in the main dining room before re-setting. There were literally dozens of ring stains on the tales and not just once but routinely. Also - no ATM or credit card advance available at the front desk, two things one might ordinarily expect at a decent hotel. With a few changes, this place could be really exceptional.
Absolutely Horrible

Not only was the hotel dirty, not accomadating, and had rude staff; the on line travel website was the worst service provider to go through. We instantly didnt like our hotel so like the travel website stands by we called them to get us a new hotel lets just say two nights on the phone for 6 hours in Mexico got us nowhere. Just a $500 phone bill and more angry. The people at the online travel website were rude, you could not understand them, and just when you thought you were getting somewhere they would put you on hold for an hour and never return or hang up! So moving on from the horrible service at the online website, the hotel was 90% spanish and 10% Americans, yes i know we were in Mexico but when no one working at the hotel is willing to speak english it makes it difficult. Our room was considered at "presidential suite", a room with a table and chairs and two beds, oh and the luxiourous hot tub on the balcony which attracted hundreds of mosquitos into our room, that was a true delight (sarcasm)! After sleeping in the beds on the third night my daughter began to break out in a rash, it spread all up her body and started to blister and puss. We imediatlely had to see a doctor and she could no longer go swimming or be in the sun. This place was the worst place my family and I have ever stayed in and its all that I can do to warn future travelers not to go through a online website and not to stay at this hotel!

We visited the hotel in October and we had such a great time. The weather was beautiful, hot and humid. It did rain but they were showers that would come and go. The employees were always there to help to serve and do anything thing they can to make it a better stay. The service desk was very fast at solving any question or problem we had. our conrol on our tv didnt seem to work so right away they came tofix it, and as soon as they left we would recieve a call to confirm that we indeed did get what we needed and if we had any other questions. the food was great. they had a different type of food every day of the week. ex; mon-mex, tues-asian.. etc... the italian restaurant was awesome. they had some very good food, but you have to make reservations. the pools are very nice and clean. the top pool is for adults so its a bit more private. the hotel is in a very great location. its in the center of the strip of hotels. there's a mall right across the street called LA ISLA. a bit expensive but nice to see. the aquarium there is very nice. have to watch the dolphin show! MERCADO 28 was awsome! so such to buy at cheap prices! never settle for what they ask for. CHICHEN- ITZA tour is very eye opening and lots of fun. COCO BONGO is a must, be prepared to be back at your room till about 4 or 5am. it was so so much fun! ISLA MUJERES is a lil island you can see in just a 45 min golf cart ride. very nice. over all it as lot of fun, nothing like the waters of cancun
