Beijing Holiday Inn Lido hotel

Quote: I have stayed here 3 times, twice in 2006 and once this year. It has consistently been a good hotel for my home base. The overall construction is on the older side and could use carpet upgrade in the hallways, but the beds are the best - down, silk, sparkling clean white bedding, and soft as a cloud. The morning buffet is a must. A great way to start each busy day. The other hotel restaurants should be avoided. There are tours available to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, etc; sign up in the lobby for the next morning. Neighborhood restaurants - try Susan's - very good. Shopping accross the street from the hotel at Sisters will get you the best bargains. The cab rides are VERY reasonable. I am going again in the fall.

okay hotel - not a deluxe hotel

Quote: This hotel is basically in a small mall kind of complex where there are some shops, coffee shops (including Starbucks), a pub, a bowling alley and restaurants. They call the complex "Lido". Pronounce that as "Lidooo" for cab drivers. Just say "Lidooo" and all of them know it.\n\nBeds are clean and comfortable, but hard by american standards. Room and bathroom were clean and ok in general. Room, esp bathroom, does appear aged. Location is not that great if you want to be close to downtown Wangfujing or san li tun. It's about 20min taxi ride. Note that taxis are very cheap. That 20min ride costs only $4-5. But, this location does appear to be prominent among westreners. So, better english here. Restuarants are... Read More

This hotel has degraded considerably over the years

Quote: When the hotel first opened 20 some years ago, it was similar in class comparing to some other hotels, such as the Sheraton Great Wall, even during our stay back in 1998. However, this time was a total disappointment. Rooms have aged and not clean, quality of staff has also degraded somewhat. It has degraded to somewhat similar to a typical Holiday Inn along the highway in Jersey or the like. For the similar rate, you can get a much better hotel in Bejing.

Great place to base your Beijing vacation from

Quote: The Lido has a great mix of home comforts and Chinese luxuries. I loved the deli for quick snacks and the Thai restraunt for a change of pace. The adjacent business provide every amenity from laudry services, tailors to a great massage at great prices.

Quote: Holiday Inn can be a good travel value in China, especially in new properties such as in Hohhot. Great rooms for about USD 50 per night, if you are in Inner Mongolia. Travelers, however, should beware, however, of one China Holiday Inn property, the Beijing Lido. In the past, it has been a real Western Oasis, offering good food and service. Management, however, has allowed the hotel decline terribly; witness my recent experience:1. On several occasions, Beijing taxi drivers tried to overcharge me right in the front of the Bell Captain. I had to dispute the fare myself, leaving me to wonder who pays the Bell Hops. The staff does not care.2. When I arrived at the hotel, the luggage folks were snoozing inside, and offered to help me with my... Read More

Quote: The Holiday Inn Lido is a superior class hotel with unbeatable service and opulence. The rooms are unbelievably big too. Instead of having breakfast in the lobby, walk to the back of the hotel where there is a very cheap breakfast place that''s meant for the public. It has delectable cuisine, simple yet tasty food, at super cheap prices. You can have a full meal for less than 2 cokes back home!
