We stayed at the Ramada Vacation Suites in April 1999. The RCI description is that the resort is one block from the Strip. In actuality, the lobby is one block away, but the units are another block away. Even though there is a lot of security, the surrounding neigborhood was definitely not good. As we walked to the Strip, there were guys hanging out in the parking lot. I don't think the entire area was part of the Ramada Vacation Suites at the time. Right across the street were hoodlums hanging out on their stoop! No one ever bothered us, but it was a concern.
We had a two-bedroom unit with a full kitchen, dining area, small living room, small master bedroom, very tiny guest room, and two bathrooms. Each pod of buildings had its own whirlpool, which was nice, but the swimming pool was in the main house, which meant we had to walk through that bad area each time. The worst thing about this place was the horrible main desk staff:
1) On the first day, they held onto my credit card. I had forgotten about it, and then they made it sound like it was my fault.
2) The second day, two keys no longer worked, so we had to walk two blocks to the main house. The main desk clerk advised us that they had the wrong departure date for us. On the third day, the other two keys didn't work. So we had to walk again to the main desk and they said that they had the wrong departure date for us. On the fourth day, the other two keys didn't work. This kept happening the entire week. Remember, we had been walking on the Strip, walked two blocks from the Strip to our unit, and then had to walk back to the main desk to reformat the keys, and then walk two blocks again to the room. It was ridiculous.
Now I have a very big compliment. They gave free shuttle service all over the Strip and downtown. This saved us a lot of money. This was a fantastic feature. I hope the resort has improved since we stayed there in 1999, but I would never stay there again.
