Not only do IgoUgo members reveal their travel dedication by sharing their experiences, but they also give us a sneak peak at the passions that keep them moving. From books to Broadway, there’s more to our members than meets the eye.
New Jersey native Saphira ditched Philly’s patriotic history for the city’s more literary past. After declaring that she’d trade “jewelry or flowers” for “a good book any day,” she took us into the sophisticated underworld of book swaps and libraries in the Pennsylvania capital. And in a city not too far away, Samlawali regularly indulges another side of artistic creativity with yearly Broadway shows.
Representing our European sector of culture vultures is marif, who likely developed his curiosity at a young age in Malta, a historical capital of Europe. Since then, he’s roamed Berlin’s palaces, admired the Czech Republic’s Renaissance architecture, and absorbed history in Lithuania’s capital. Southerner vampirefan, on the other hand, traveled back in American time with a journal dedicated to lighthouses, “some of the oldest structures left in the States today.” Of course, this lighthouse-hopping happened in the home state of which she’s more than a regular old fan, with a whopping 23 journals on her North Carolina stomping grounds.
Sometimes, though, it’s not what our members do, but how they travel that opens up a whole new perspective. Motor-home wandering defines Dutch-speaking btwood2’s travel style, with trips to “cooler destinations in the summer, warmer ones in the winter.” And true to the budget-conscious outlook represented by motor-home travel, she cites “happy hour” as her nightlife fave.
Speaking of creatures of the night, IgoUgo’s 20-something crowd prefers to swap daytime meandering for nighttime imbibing. Lisanti prefers to pack in drinking and dancing in as few hours as possible, and notso62, satisfied with a “cool bar scene,” took us on an extensive Boston bar crawl for “the party animals.” One of IgoUgo’s own, MoDean, represented the staff’s knack for hanging with the best of them in Prague, “where each route navigated and each to-do item accomplished was promptly rewarded with a pint of Czech beer.” Who says our members are the only ones with a surprise or two up their sleeves?
