Air Male: Best Guy Getaways

Posted on May 12, 2025 in Trip Ideas

Whether the travelers are father and son, brothers, or a few buddies, guys’ trips constitute more than just a small travel niche. They’re not all bachelor parties, baseball games, and beer, either. Well, maybe a lot of them are, but sometimes a guy just needs a trip with the boys to enjoy things like fishing and cheesesteaks. We hate to adhere to stereotypes, but we couldn’t seem to dig up too many bachelor-party journals that involved spa treatments and wine-tastings. Here, we spotlight IgoUgo members’ alpha-male trips.

The Father-Son Trip
Seaotter71 buddied up with his dad for a Father/Son Trip to China. While son lives in California, father is “full-blooded Chinese, but born and raised in Panama. As a young man, tradition dictated he visit China, but the political climate at the time made it impossible.” Though hiking the Great Wall proved tiring for dad, what better way for the two men to follow through on the traditions of the elder’s land of birth?

The Lock and Load
Liam Hetherington describes a moderately less cultured—but no less cultural—experience when he visits Riga – The Bad Boy of the Baltics. Perhaps that’s harsh judgment for our young U GO! Award winner; despite the fact that he and his mates did get their hands on Kalashnikovs and a fair amount of beer, they also stopped by at least two museums. Not sex museums, either.

The Stadium Tour
The stadium circuit is a dream for any avid fan. IgoUgo members are no exception here, as crashbowman can attest. He watched Baseball PNC Style after his friends bought him what he calls a unique wedding gift: “They were going to take me to three Major League Baseball stadiums in three days.” Sounds like fun, though as it was after he got married, he still had to check with the boss first.

The Baseball Alternative, Eh?
Guys’ trips involving sports are not limited to baseball. Candidly named member Slapshot7 describes his desire to go Touring the NHL Cities. Ideally, he and his friends thought, “Wouldn't it be great to rent an RV and put our skis, boards, and hockey equipment in it? We could then ski and board during the day, play pick-up hockey at night, and go to all the NHL arenas west of the Mississippi?” Of course, this idea came during a night of drinking away an airport delay and was eventually body-checked: “The next morning, when we sobered up, we realized that we didn't have the time or the money to accomplish such a feat.” Hey, we still salute the idea.

The Bachelor Party
Of course, the consummate guys’ trip is the bachelor party, and IgoUgo members have taken their fair share. Not surprisingly, Las Vegas seems to be the hit destination for guys. It does seem odd that the groom would want to lose all his money gambling just before he gets married, but to each his own. Apparently, CMJordanHoosier feels that casinos are “his own,” as he organized a Bachelor Party…Vegas Style for his friends. There was a great deal of drinking and gambling—though it sounds like there was more gambling after the drinking—and the group even managed to temporarily misplace one of their party’s members. Don’t worry: he eventually turned up, just moments before they all left for a “gentleman’s club.” How gentlemanly.

The Old Man and the Sea
“Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” Go on a fishing trip with dad, have the best time of your life. Okay, so maybe that last part is made up, but you’d have a hard time convincing DannyBoy54 otherwise. Who knows what it is, but guys love to fish. Trophy Fishing with his father proved to be more memorable than he could have predicted when DannyBoy54 hauled in what he claims to be a world-record Dorado. Of course, in true sporting fashion, he cut the beast loose in honor of the fight he put up. We’d have liked to see some photographic evidence, but we’ll take the writer at his word. When has a fisherman ever exaggerated?

The All-Rounder
RoBoNC knows a thing or two about guys’ trips. He took a Father & Son Trip to the Northeast Part 1 in which he watched baseball and ate the world-famous Duff’s Buffalo wings, and followed by a Father & Son Trip to the Northeast Part 2, in which member and father travel to see an auto show including the Ford F-250 Super Chief, described by the writer as “a massive truck, bigger than any Ford has to date.” Sports, food, and big trucks: now that’s a guys’ trip.
