Why head inland to Midwestern beaches instead of to the Caribbean? Besides seeing stunning rock formations and sea caves—and four lovely seasons—you can plan with two recent Best of IgoUgo journals lauding Lake Superior’s southern shore.
Missouri resident callen60 is classically comprehensive in his journal Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, in which he introduces this area in “da UP” of Michigan as one of his “favorite places on earth” and includes 29 photos to beautifully illustrate why. Cruises and dunes, diners and unique motels, Finland-like wilderness: these shores are clearly worthy of callen60’s top journal.
Also praising Lake Superior’s southern waters—albeit those clear across the lower shore—is rakiura, who calls his Apostle Islands, Wisconsin, journal Exploring the Caribbean of the North. We trust it's no misnomer, as the writer is an avid sailor and has already reviewed the British Virgin Islands on IgoUgo. Check out his Wisconsin reviews to discover a 21-island archipelago right in the middle of the US, and to learn why “the lake is the boss.” You might not be able to set sail until spring, but in the meantime, some entertaining sled races are practically imminent.
