The last time we featured a pair of Carmen journals, the longtime IgoUgo member was “on another planet” in Death Valley and “going big” in Las Vegas. Now she’s on another continent, still going big, enjoying Amsterdam and Brussels at their springtime best.
Her newest reviews are organized in a helpful manner and punched up with Carmen’s trademark humor—check out the journals Amster-DAM That Was Fun! and Eating Our Way Through Brussels in One Day to see what we mean. Incidentally, the traveler’s humor is a great fit for recounting only-in-Amsterdam activities like Randy Roy’s Red Light Tours. (Odd fact: Randy Roy is actually an American named Kimberly. Go figure.)
Traveling with her “handsome [breakfast/lunch/dinner] partner” in tow and Rick Steves at the ready, Carmen tips us off to many more Benelux treats, including an impressive roster of places for sweets. Don’t miss her sure pick for waffles, or her description of the sugary confection.
Bookmark her advice for your own trip, but remember to skip the hotel where a stay is “like the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” (For different options, koshkha’s new rundown of Hotels in and around Amsterdam should help.) After reading these journals, there’s no chance you won’t want to follow in Carmen’s well-traveled shoes. And if you’re lucky enough to be Netherlands-bound tomorrow, April 30, Happy Queen’s Day!
