We’re really enjoying getting to know new member Cat19 through her travels, though we must say she’s quite a conundrum. We know that she struck out to explore Asia for six months and that she moved to Bermuda for two years; we also know that the item she won’t leave home without is her hair straightener. But if she can hold her own against men wielding giant inflatable hammers in China, a hurricane in the Caribbean, and frizz and flyaways—well, she’s our hero.

Here’s a quick primer on her (fantastic) first five journals:

Four months in Asia
Cat19 explores China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. And meets her husband. And encounters the inflatable hammer incident (or, rather, the three-day-long inflatable hammer incident).

Japan Journal 2008
On a break from Bermuda, Cat19 and husband get a two-week introduction to Japan. They dive into local experiences, staying in a riyokan, eating multi-course meals, and noshing in Starbucks (it’s more local than it sounds, as “there aren't any in Bermuda”).

Two years in Bermuda
This journal provides great tips for places to visit, from an almost-local’s perspective, and some tips on eating in Bermuda. “After living in London for 11 years, I thought that the choice of restaurants would be one of the things I would miss most,” says Cat19. “In fact I always felt spoilt for choice.” Which leads us to her next journal...

Dining in Bermuda
Whether you need “blue-ribbon dining,” movie star sightings, or a reliable locals’ favorite, Cat19 has a review for it in her Bermuda dining journal.

Nights in UK Hotels
Cat19’s reviews here run the gamut again, from “stylish stopovers” in London to “jelly beans and an honesty bar” in Leeds. All of her hotel reviews, however, are similarly thorough and thoughtful.

Welcome, Cat19, and here's to more journals!
