Happy Independence Day! It’s the Fourth of July, America’s birthday and most revered holiday. Americans celebrate in many different ways, though festivities of some description are always in order. Since 1777, we’ve been commemorating the day with salvos of fireworks and a whole lot of red, white, and blue.
Today, we still celebrate with pyrotechnics from sea all the way to shining sea, including some spectacular shows in between. As the Fourth is about more than just a day off from work, many Americans choose to spend time with family and friends, implementing that most American of shindigs: the barbecue. Of course, some traditions may seem a bit strange, but that’s what it means to be living in a free and open society!
Off the mainland, there are Americans hoping to observe the day, and there is no shortage of things to do, including one of the funnier, yet more noble, activities taking place in our 50th State.
For those US citizens who find themselves really far from home and in need of a fix of Americana, some embassies or consulates host a get-together while some American organizations go all out.
So, party accordingly but, when saluting Old Glory, remember that there are some specifics to mind. Also, if you plan on making DIY rockets’ red glare, be safe, and if you can’t get your hands on any sparklers, you can at least distract yourself for a while.
