- In the summer of 2009, my husband and I set out to visit Israel, with a side trip into Jordan. It is a country that many fear travelling to, however with a bit of common sense, and a trusty guidebook, Israel is safe and easy and like nowhere else!

- I had anticipated an exciting first visit to Israel but had no idea how impressed and amazed I would be once I got there. This is a journey not to be missed!

- They made us wait 3.5 hours before escorting us out of the airport, into an Israeli taxicab. He dropped us off at a remote checkpoint inside the West Bank, in the dark of night, and we had the sinking feeling of stepping into a prison.

- Jerusalem is a city with a history like no other. The city maintains a certain aura that will inspire the most even ardent atheist. The West Bank, with an equally impressive history, has much that will intrigue visitors, not least of which is the powerful culture of the Palestinian people.

- The story goes that when God created the world, he gave it ten measures of beauty. Nine measures he gave to Israel, and the remaining one measure to the rest of the world to divide. Wandering through this stunning country, you can well believe it.

- Jerusalem, Al Quds, Yerushalayam- call it what you will, this is a fascinating city. Old as time (well, older than a lot of other cities!), and combining within it east and west in an enthralling blend. Olive groves, golden stone and history- all make Jerusalem what it is.

- Israel is a land of contrasts. Modern yet ancient,
Desiring peace yet fighting wars, Secular yet religious, Parched yet lush,
Central yet far away, Insignificant yet closely-watched, Strong yet vulnerable.
