Domtoren

The Dom Tower

  • 3 out of 5 stars by Globe from Salt Lake City, Utah

Quote: The Dom is a huge medieval church that was first built in the 14th century. It had a difficult time, though, in a hurricane a few hundred years later, and only the tower survived. Today you can climb 465 steps to the top to see a great view of the city.

The Dom Tower

Quote: When you enter Utrecht, you cannot miss the Dom Tower. Once upon a time this tower was connected to the Dom church, but a bomb during the World War destroyed part of the church. The church was rebuilt but much smaller and a street was built between the church and the tower. Nowadays you can climb the tower with a guide (tickets for sale at the small building connected to the tower). Be prepared though: there are many many many steps to be conquered before you reach the top and enjoy the spectaculair view of Utrecht.

Domkerk & Domtoren

  • 4 out of 5 stars by Re Carroll from Abbotsford, British Columbia

Quote: This cathederal is right in the centre of the city and the tower is visible throughout the city. You can get to the top of the tower by climbing 450+ stairs on a guided tour. There is a small, well laid out garden with a central fountain near the cloisters. On the day I visited, there weren't many people and it was an extremely pleasant, quiet spot to relax and reflect.

Dom tower

  • 4 out of 5 stars by jurgen from Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands

Quote: The best way to see the city is from the highest point; the Dom church tower. This tower has for centuries been the highest building in the Netherlands. The only way to climb the tower is by joining a guided tour through cathedral and tower. Ticketsales are at the Rondom visitorcentre, Domplein 9. You will see that the guide knows a lot of interesting facts and the view from the top of the tower is just amazing. You'll notice that the Domtower is not connected to the Domcathedral, the Domplein (Domsquare) is in between. This is the result of a massive storm hundreds of years ago, a tornado blew away te middle section of the catheral. It was never rebuild.
