Worst Restaurant in Hawaii

Quote: Having come to Hawaii and Kaua'i for over 15 years I can guarantee you that Duke's DOES NOT DESERVE a 4 rating - not even close! This is a completely mediocre place with mediocre food and mediocre service. The ONLY thing good is a few seats in the Terrace overlooking Nawiliwili Harbor. You are better off at many other restaurants in Lihue - especially Gaylord's, but even Mariachi's or Kuikui's at the Marriott. Don't waste your time or money at Duke's!!!!

Rats!

Quote: After being seated 40 minutes past our reservation time, we went to the salad bar and were greeted by two rats scurrying out of the kitchen. Prior to that incident, there were cockroaches mating on the wall in the waiting area, right above where we sat on the waiting benches. We should have left then and there. It was disgusting and the place was filthy. Granted, the restaurant is open and on the beach, but a level of cleanliness is to be expected. The harsh winds blew sand everywhere in the restaurant, there were people constantly trampling in from the beach dripping wet--not to eat, just to pass through the restaurant-- and the bathroom was dirtier and smellier than the bathroom at Waikiki Beach. We left immediately after seeing the... Read More

Quote: We had an 8:30 reservation but we decided to head over early to try and get in earlier than our reservation time. I called and the hostess said to come right over, that the wait was only around 30 minutes for walk-ins. We arrived at 7:00 and Gabriella informed us that the wait was now 45 minutes to an hour. We said fine and that we would wait. One hour and 45 minutes later we were escorted to our four-top table that they expected five of us to sit at. At this point we were even late for the original 8:30 reservation we had. We were not the only ones, many there that night were sat 30-45 minutes later than their reservation. I called the manager over to complain and he brushed us off and said that people were just not getting up from their... Read More

Quote: This was a great place to grab something to eat and have a drink right off the beach. We had to wait a while for an outside table, but nothing too bad. We had chicken caesar salads that were wonderful!

Quote: Centered in the middle of Waikiki, Duke's is a must see if you are in town. The restaurant is a local landmark named after Duke Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian surfing legend. Evenings are very crowded but worth the wait. If you step off the back deck, you are on Waikiki Beach. The food is excellent, especially the Hula Pie, made for you, macadamia nut lovers. On Sunday afternoon's (the best day to go in my opinion) live entertainment makes for a perfect day.

Quote: This restaurant is located at the Outrigger Hotel on Waikiki. We have eaten there for both lunch and dinner; I recommend that if you have kids to go there for lunch. The food is great and the views are incredible. It overlooks Waikiki and has an incredible sunset view at dinner. It is not really that expensive at lunch ($60 for 2 adults and a 2-year-old) but can be at dinner, especially if you add that all important Mai Tai or bottle of wine (around $100). I recommend making reservations as it is a very very popular restaurant.

Quote: The breakfast buffet is well worth the cost. You have a choice of so many items, including a full fruit bar and an omelet bar. The food is delicious and the price is great. Service is A+ and well worth the wait, which can sometimes be up to an hour. This is located inside the Outrigger Hotel and is open to anyone. You can even get a patio seat when available. Very friendly and very good! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the food! When you're done, roll down to the beach and make a day of it!

Quote: They have the best breakfast buffet. They make omelets to order right in front of you in less than a minute. The staff is great and the food is amazing. The restaurant sits on the beach, so as you are eating you can listen and watch the waves come in.

Quote: We enjoyed a buffet breakfast at Duke's with lovely views of the ocean. The buffet is varied with eggs Benedict, pancakes, French toast, crepes, made to order omelettes, fruit bread (mango, guava, pineapple), cereal bar, fresh fruit bar, and your standard breakfast meats. Priced at $14pp (less for kids), you can fill up for the most important meal of the day that will leave you satisfied well past lunch. Service is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is large enough to not seem crowded.

Quote: Dule's is a great restaurant with great atmosphere-exactly what you would expect in Hawaii. You can choose to sit on their balcony lanai or tables indoors that have a great ocean view. Even if you get an inside table, it's fun to sit near their koi pond/waterfall. The food is exellent, with a wonderfully fresh salad bar. After dinner, head downstairs to the 'Barefoot Bar' to hear music and have some tropical cocktails served with fresh fruit and umbrellas! (For those who need a "frou-frou" drink fix!!) They also have excellent pupus (that's appetizers to you mainlanders!).
