First things first--the resort. They have plenty of rooms to offer, 1 bedrooms or 2 bedrooms, and we had the latter. It sleeps six, but we had five in our group. We were comfortable—the main bedroom had large bathtub with shower and a LARGE walk-in closet--ladies, "whoa!" that's all I have to say; I was in heaven. There were three TVs, one in each bedroom and one in the living room area with a VCR. (Oh, there are free movies you can get from the resort.) First things first--the resort. The pool is heated--I believe to a wonderful 83°F and a hot tub at a glorious 103°F. Things are hot in Vegas (although, not if you go in October—it can be cool even COLD, yes; believe me when I say the temperatures ranged from the low 50s to the low 80s). There's a common lounge with a LARGE TV (yes, men, you can watch your games) with free coffee all day. There's a pool table (not allowed for children under 16) and occasional resort activities/entertainment. The hot dog day was great—one hotdog with chips was .50! If you’re from the Northeast, this was a rock-bottom price for a quick lunch if you didn’t feel like going out to eat or cooking in your unit. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you—there are four barbeque grills and nice ones at that. There’s even an outdoor fireplace. So, you want to hit The Strip? No problem. Just make reservations on the resort's 14-seat van—it runs from noon to midnight, making drop-offs and pick-ups at four or five stops. Kenneth, our van driver, was entertaining—yes, this is Vegas—so be prepared for a lively ride. He’ll give you tips, tricks, and cautions. Remember, Las Vegas isn’t meant for you to win--they want to take your money, and Kenneth won’t let you out of the van without letting you know that. The van is reliable, but remember, be on time. Don’t keep your fellow vacationers waiting, and remember, if you don’t need your seat on the van, let the front desk or Kenneth know so that someone else can get a seat. If you’re in for visual stimulation (and if you like to gamble)—Vegas is the place. It is a world of wonderment and buffets—head to the MGM Grand for a reliable dinner buffet—delicious!
Quick Tips:
Want shows? There are lots of them. Often the casinos will offer you a multitude of things as soon as you walk through their doors. My suggestion--if there is a show you really want to see, book MONTHS IN ADVANCE. Don't wait until you get to Vegas--the competition for tickets is fierce and EXPENSIVE. There's Cirque du Soliel, O, Zumanity, We Will Rock You, and topless entertainment--if that's your thing. If you want to go to the Grand Canyon, it is a LONG day; prepare yourself for a bus ride or car ride. You will begin saying, "Are we there yet?" Hoover Dam is just that, a dam, but only an hour away. If you're staying at The Cliffs for 7 days, rent a car in advance and you should get a good deal. We used Thrifty--they were the cheapest, but if you have coupons for other car rentals, take advantage of them.Best Way To Get Around:
Taxis? Watch out! They will try, if you let them, to cheat you, especially getting to and from the airport to The Cliffs (or to the Strip). P.S. The cost from McCarran to The Cliffs should not cost you, with tip, more than . They should take the most direct route and not some convoluted sightseeing route to boost their meter! There's the no. 103 bus, I believe, that goes up and down The Strip--cost to ride is . Taxiing up and down The Strip is ridiculous--wear good sneakers or shoes and you should be fine. Take leisurely walks and use the trams that are operated between certain hotels because they're free. Read Less
