As night fell over Disneyland Paris, my fiancé and I decided that we would look for some rides to go on late at night at around 10pm. We walked to Fantasyland and saw a beautifully lit up ride and found that it was the ‘Mad Hatters Tea Cups.’ Now I love tea cups and have many wonderful childhood memories of riding in them, however I have never in my life seen any as beautiful or magical as these.

The tea cups are located towards the end of Fantasyland and can be missed as there are popular rides near to the tea cups which overshadow the slightly. You will be able to locate the ride by finding the Alice In Wonderland Maze as it is opposite this ‘big attraction’.

The queue for the Mad Hatters Tea Cups was very short, only a fifteen minute wait which was great. The queue wraps around the ride so that you can enjoy the music and watching the ride whilst waiting for your turn. There is nowhere to sit down or ‘perch’ on this ride so your legs can get very tired, especially when you have to keep walking short distances then stand for a while. The queue is also very open to the elements. It was raining when we went on this ride and we did get quite wet due to the wind blowing the rain into the queue area. Lots of people were wearing ponchos to keep them dry, I wish I had thought about this beforehand as they did sell these in the park but for a very expensive price so make sure that you take them before you go.

There are eighteen tea cups on the ride each holds 4-5 people but you can go on by yourself if you wish. The staff get people on and off of the ride as quickly as possible and check each tea cup before the ride starts to ensure that the safety latch is on. Children should be sat in the middle of the ride, although this ride does not pose many safety issues. The tea cups have a narrow entrance into them with a high step up which in my opinion could cause problems for small children, people with mobility problems and bigger people although the Disneyland website suggests that this ride is suitable for everyone and has no restrictions. I would also say that if you get motion sickness or don’t enjoy rides that spin you around then this is not one for you as the tea cups do move very fast in a big circle motion and in addition each tea cup spins itself.

The ride at night is magical. The whole of the roof of the ride is covered in little lit up lanterns in different colours which flutter and fly as the ride picks up speed. As with all tea cup rides, you can make your tea cup spin faster or slower depending on how you like it. The ride lasts a good five minutes which was slightly too long for me as I started to feel a little sick however lots of the children on the ride were screaming with delight which was a joy to hear!

I saw people enjoying the ride during the day but was not initially drawn to it as it was not lit up at this time so cannot comment on how good it is during the daytime, however you must go on this ride at night! I highly recommended it.

This is a magical ride for the whole family and one that I am sure everyone will enjoy and it is great because the whole family can ride together due to there being no restrictions on who rides this ride.

Space Mountain 2 has quite a good queue, outside you can watch (and hear) the people on the ride as they blast out of the cannon and ‘into space’. Inside the walls are decorated beautifully with pictures of space. It really builds up the excitement of this ride before it is your turn to embark on the great journey.

The train seats two in a row with safety features such as a pull down shoulder harness. I must say that I felt quite safe in this harness as it was quite tight and not too big, usually I feel as though I can slip out of these things! I would not recommend taking children on this ride though simply because of the safety features, I feel that smaller bodies will not be as safe as an adult, these bars and harnesses aren’t made for children and this ride is big. I would use your judgement on this ride (as with all) about whether you feel your child will be safe.

The ‘mission’ begins with a countdown in the famous cannon, next you are literally shot from the cannon and into ‘space’. Now I have never been to space yet this is exactly as I can imagine it. The fast paced ride shoots you through star clusters, moons, planets and into a Super Nova all of which look specialty real. Inside the ride it is pitch black apart from the lasers that create the magical space images. The one thing I liked most about this rollercoaster is the fact that there are no drops, I hate how most rollercoaster’s have huge tummy turning drops on them yet this one had noe and was absolutely fantastic!

When I got off my legs were shaking but I was ecstatic and desperate to ride again. What a superb ride in Disneyland Paris.

Space Mountain 2 is recommended for ‘Thrill Seekers’ as the website states it has ‘big Thrills’. People under 1.32 meters cannot go on this ride and people who are pregnant, have heart or blood problems, have motion sickness or who have back or spinal problems are not permitted to go on this ride. Children under 10 are not recommended to go on this ride and wheelchair users need to move from their wheelchair onto the ride seat.

Whilst on our long weekend to Disneyland Paris for New Years Eve, we wanted to find somewhere to eat that would be reasonably priced, decent quality and preferably all you can eat, so that we wouldn’t have to eat again whilst we were at the resort.

Prior to our departure we researched the best places to eat by looking at review sites and seeing which were the most popular and which seemed the fairest in terms of price. We saw that the Toy Story Pizza Planet had pretty good reviews from lots of people and that it was an eat all you can eat buffet style restaurant, which was exactly what we were looking for.

When we got to the park, we found that the restaurants and other places to eat were quite busy and we were worried that there wouldn’t be enough space for us in the restaurant or that there would be long waiting times to eat. We decided to take a chance at the Toy Story Pizza Planet restaurant and so we went off in search of it.

We were quite surprised to find that the entrance to Pizza Planet is quite secluded from the rest of Discovery Land, it took us quite a while to locate where we needed to go and then it was about a ten minute walk to get there. There was no queue to get into the restaurant and you had to pay before you could see the food which should have been a slight warning to us, however with no other option and with time running out we decided to eat here. Unfortunately for us as it was New Years Eve the price of the restaurant rocked sky high and we had to pay €90 between us!

When we got in to the restaurant I was shocked by how run down and unattractive the place was, it looked like a huge warehouse with hundreds of tables and chairs. The decoration was really disappointing in comparison to the rest of the park; I thought that they would have made the place look the same as ‘Pizza Planet’ in the first Toy Story film.

The food was on a few hot plates and looked very unappetising however as we had paid we had no choice but to eat here. The menu consisted of pizza, chips, spaghetti bolognaise, salad and a choice of cakes. Drink machines containing fizzy drinks was also included within the price. The food was appalling to be quite frank, the quality was poor and taste was unappetising. I would have been unhappy with the quality of the food if I had paid €10 let alone €90!

We didn’t really eat much food due to the quality but also due to the horrible environment. There were literally children running everywhere screaming. Now I don’t mind children being over excited and loud however I cannot stand children being unruly in restaurants where people are trying to eat.

The toilet facilities were clean and had plenty of toilet paper in them and there was disabled access to all of the facilities however the tables and chairs are all very crammed in so you may have trouble getting a wheelchair through them.

I would suggest that you avoid this restaurant completely unless you really have no other option, a complete waste of money.

We arrived at the Novotel Massy Palaiseau at around 8pm on January 30th and were welcomed to a really lovely place about half an hour from the Disneyland resort. The Massy Palaiseau is rated a three to four star hotel and the amenities were well worth that recommendation. As we were only bed and breakfast we did not get any dinner but there were places to eat quite nearby. As we were tired from all of the travelling we chose to have an early night and went to bed for an early rise the next morning.

The next morning we got up, had a continental breakfast and left sharp for a 9am coach trip to the Disneyland Paris resort and arrived at approximately 10am on New Year’s Eve. We could never have comprehended exactly how big Disneyland Paris was going to be and at first were certainly overwhelmed. Before we went we decided to research all of the different rides and shows that happen in Disneyland to ensure that we got to experience the parts of the resort that we wanted really wanted. This was a great idea as I'm sure we would not have known where to begin had we not done this due to the size and splendour of the resort.

We started off by visiting the Walt Disney Studios, a separate park which cost around £13 per person when we booked originally. This was also very good value for money as there are a lot of rides, shops and a few places to eat here. The turnstiles were easy to use and many members of staff were on hand to assist you as you enter the park. Unlike some other attraction parks you are allowed to take in food and drink but not chewing gum, many people had this confiscated on the way in. We decided to go on the Tower of Terror first and were not disappointed, the ride was so scary! I was quite surprised to find that you could take you bags onto most of the rides and that small children are allowed on most of the rides too, however you should check height restrictions to avoid any potential disappointment. All of the bigger rides, those with the thrill factor, also possess their own photo booths whereby one can purchase photos that are taken whilst on the ride. Each bigger ride also has its own shop that sells merchandise related to the ride.

We didn't spend too long in the Walt Disney Studios as we were so excited to go to the main Disneyland park. Walking up to the entrance of the park is actually a major experience in itself which I will never forget. The sheer grand size of everything and the authenticity of the buildings is truly remarkable and immediately one is able to relate the different buildings and parts of the park to the Disney films. Again we had to go through the turnstiles and be searched but this was no problem. In the Disneyland park there are lots of amazing rides, shops and of course the famous parades. As we went during New Years, the Christmas parades were still running which meant that it was possible for children to have pictures with Father Christmas and a Goofy version of Father Christmas.

We decided to spend our time between going on the rides and watching the parades. Some of the queue times were very long however fast pass is a fantastic added advantage and it's free! It works by giving everybody the opportunity to possess one fast pass ticket for one ride at a time. Your ticket gives you a time slot of around half an hour whereby you can cut the queue to get on the ride. This seems to work really well as it gives you the opportunity to plan around a ride that you really want to go on. You can only have one fast pass ticket at a time however. All of the rides were really enjoyable but my favourite part of the resort was amazing Sleeping Beauty Castle where the inside depicts the story of Sleeping Beauty through stain glass windows, tapestries and paintings. Under the castle is the huge dragon from the story which moves and breaths out smoke which children will love and fear!

The parades are spectacular, my Fiancé really enjoyed the Once Upon a Dream parade where all of the different Disneyland characters came out on separate floats. Both new and old Disney characters were involved in all of the parades which means that there is something for everyone. My favourite parade was the Lights Parade with the lit up castle in the background and the perfectly timed music. This happened at night time to ensure that the lights were the main attraction and all of the floats were dazzling. I would advise that you arrive approximately half an hour before the start time of each parade to get a space at the front in order to get great viewing and photo opportunities.

Food and merchandise at the park is extortionately priced. If you can, you should take your own food and drink. We ate in Pizza Planet, a restaurant themed on Toy Story, this was a buffet service. It costs a whopping €45 per person and the quality was awfully poor. The souvenirs are lovely, lots of glitter and Disney magic. We bought a beautiful photo album which everyone loved looking through and some other small gifts.

At midnight there was a brilliant firework display that occurred over the top of the stunning castle to welcome in the new year. Again you must arrive early if you want to get a good view and photos. We were very lucky and got moved to the front of the castle in the second row. It was here that my Fiancé proposed to me!

Leaving Disneyland Paris takes a long time as there are literally thousands of people all leaving the same way meaning that it is slow and sometimes painfully annoying trying to get past people and back to the coach. It is also worth noting that the entrance, which is also the exit, became extremely slippery due to it raining and I was slipping and sliding all over the place.

Disneyland Paris is definitely well worth the hype, it is magical and truly fantastic!

Similarly to Pizza Planet, also a feature of the Toy Story movies, Buzz Lightyear’s Laser Blast is located in the Discovery land section of the Disneyland Paris resort. From the beginning of the Park it will take most around ten to fifteen minutes to walk to but is easy to find once you are in the right area. This ride does possess the fast pass feature and if you want ensure that you experience it, which you should, then it is well worth using a fast pass ticket on this attraction as we noticed that queuing time took up to around one and a half hours. The fast pass tickets are good as they give you a fifteen minute time slot for later on in the day where you can experience the ride without having to queue up for a long time.

Perhaps the major reason why queuing takes so long for this ride is because the attraction itself lasts approximately five minutes, much longer than other rides, and therefore the transformation between those boarding and departing from the ride is a lengthy process. The queue from the back of the line to the ride takes a long while in itself, younger children may become bored of waiting in this line, but the ride is worth the wait. The majority of the queuing also takes place inside the building and this is entertaining as you can see characters from Toy Story and get a taste for what is likely to happen inside.

The Disneyland Paris website suggests that this ride is "Good for families with little ones" but also warns that "The attraction may frighten younger guests." I would suggest that it is best to judge how you think your own child is. For instance the ride is not so much scary but a lot of the experience is very dark with only colourful lasers giving lights to see. There is also one section, toward the end, whereby a huge Zurg figure, Buzz Lightyear’s nemesis, appears and he does have quite an evil laugh. If your child is fine with the dark and adventurous then they will most probably be absolutely fine on this ride and love it.

Each carriage is circular in shape and can hold two people; you have to board these whilst they are moving, although this is not very fast. This was a new experience for me but it was fun walking alongside the cart and then jumping in, a member of staff is also on hand to help this process. Once inside the member of staff also closes the door on the cart to ensure your safety. This process is repeated when exiting the ride also. Each cart comprises of two laser guns and a scoreboard for each person there is also a lever in the middle which allows the cart to spin around so you can shoot on both sides of the attraction. The main purpose of this ride is to shoot small targets which are scattered throughout and amass as big a score as possible.
I had a little bit of trouble working out how to use the guns, however my fiancé didn’t have this trouble and was absolutely fine in shooting. Some children may need help with aiming and shooting if they have no experience of this type of game.
