Excellent stay

High quality hotel, with nice, clean rooms and excellent service. The suite was great for our family, with our two girls on the sleep sofa, and my wife and I in the King-size bed. Nice bathroom/dressing room setup, with two entrances and lots of space. Two closets and lots of drawers were nice. Sink, microwave, refrigerator were convenient. Good high-speed internet. Free continental breakfast saved us $50 per morning. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Small, but nice exercise room on 22nd floor with hot-tub.

Cambridge Suites

The Cambridge Suites is located in a convenient area amongst the financial district and entertainment district. The time I was in Toronto was the weekend of Caribana, which is a crazy festival. Loads of people from everywhere enjoy these week-long festivities filled with culture.

With its location on Richmond and Yonge St., the Cambridge Suites is within walking distance of many sites. Consisting of almost 250 suites (one- and two-bedroom), each suite consists of a microwave and fridge, king or two double beds, a pull-out couch, relatively large bathroom, and many amenities to date. Each night, the hotel provides complimentary chocolate, bottled water, and popcorn. One of the best qualities of this hotel was its complimentary service of continental breakfast. Each day was filled with different pastries and doughnuts.

This hotel is best suited for families and not a mixture of adults. With four adults and only two beds (including pull-out), one adult (me) had to sleep on the floor; we had to put in a request for a two-double suite on the cityscape. The pictures from the hotel are deceiving because they must be from the penthouse suite. The furniture and room were pretty dated and not really worth the high rating. Also, the TVs were pretty old in the sense of poor color and quality.

The Cambridge Suites are within a few hundred feet of Eaton Centre, the shopping mall. All the women will love this mall, consisting of many stores that may be found in the U.S. or not. Also, Queen St. West is the next street over, where many retailers are located.

Mostly, the employees were very nice and helpful to find any attractions. If you are looking for pure luxury, I would recommend the Four Seasons or some other five-star resort. If you are looking for comfort and affordability, Cambridge Suites may be for you.

Cambridge Suites

We booked a city view suite at the Cambridge Suites hotel after reading various reviews on websites which praised the hotel.

We arrived three hours before their official check-in, but they still found us a room and were very friendly and helpful. You park your car yourself in the car park adjoining the hotel, there is a lift to and from the hotel.

Our room was on the 21st floor and was a very pleasant surprise. The suite was large with a workstation area as you enter with desk, office chair, fax machine and cables etc for complimentary high speed internet connection. There was a kitchenette area consisting of a sink, worktop, fridge, minibar, microwave, and coffee maker. They also supply cutlery and crockery and snacks such as popcorn, crisps, chocolate, etc. These just get added to your room bill as you use them. Another very impressive service is that they will buy in groceries for you at no extra charge. You get a shopping list to complete, hand it in to reception and they deliver the bits to your room. Another nice touch were the weather cards put under your door each evening letting you know what the weather was going to be like the next day.

The next area of the suite was the living area, which had a sofa, chair, coffee table, TV with satellite, and VCR. You then walked through to the bedroom, which can be shut off with sliding doors. The bedroom was large with king size bed, bedside cabinets, chairs, lamps, alarm clock, TV with satellite CD player with a few CDs supplied which you could buy at reception. This vanity area was very large with wardrobe, sinks, and large vanity area, which then leads into the bathroom with toilet, bath and shower. Fluffy white bathrobes are also supplied.

In the city view rooms, you can choose to have your complimentary continental breakfast delivered to your room, or you can go down to the second floor and help yourself to the buffet. You can also choose to have a hot breakfast served in the restaurant in the hotel but this is at an additional cost. We decided to go down to the buffet for breakfast most mornings as then we could have what we felt like at the time rather than pre-ordering room service. The choice consisted of cereals, toast, bagels, muffins, pastries, teas, coffee, fruit juices, yogurts etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel; it was very comfortable and had all the home comforts including a very comfortable bed and great pillows. I can definitely recommend this if you are planning a stay in Toronto. We paid CD$209 per night plus tax.

Cambridge Suites in an all-suite hotel. Each of the suites features a private bedroom, a spacious living room and a fully equipped work area. The entertainment bar contains a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and mini-bar offering snacks and beverages. (I recommend buying your own and saving money!) The separate bedroom can be closed off, separating you from the living area. The bathroom has a separate sink/vanity area that is quite large although the lighting wasn't great. A white terry robe is found in your closet!

Also in the closet is a full size ironing board and iron. Cable TV is free with movies and video games available for a fee. TV in both the living room and bedroom. My suite had two beds (queen size I believe). I had wished it had a safe in the room though. It would have been nice to be able to comfortably leave extra cash or valuables behind when I went exploring the city on foot.

The Fitness Centre includes sauna, whirlpool, Stairclimber, Universal gym, stationary bike & treadmill.

There is a restaurant at the hotel although I didn't eat there. Continental breakfast is offered daily and you can opt to have this delivered to your room. Otherwise there is a buffet on the second floor. There is also a celebration of some sort on Wednesdays which I was not there for.

Everyone was very friendly and the rooms were well cleaned. They offer a turn down service with chocolates and water. This sometimes runs a little late. My last night there, it was after 9pm that I heard them in the hallways. I had put out my do not disturb sign by that time since it was a work night.

My rate of $189 CDN was a corporate rate. On the internet, through commercial sites, I think better offers were available in US dollars.

Within walking distance are the CN Tower, Eaton Centre, Air Canada Centre, Toronto SkyDome, Hockey Hall of Fame, Princess of Wales Theatre, Canon Theatre (formerly the Pantages), Hummingbird Centre, Harbourfront, and Roy Thomson Hall.
