To celebrate the IgoUgo Travel Blog’s first anniversary today, we’re looking back at the highlights of our first year and looking forward to new features. Here’s a hint: get ready to write.
But first, some favorites from our first 165 posts:
January 2007: The blog kicked off with posts that saw members old and new sharing the spotlight, a hint of things to come.
February 2007: Always festive, we marked Valentine’s Day in two ways: with a list of the best places to seal the deal or break up, and with a mixed bag of candy hearts.
March 2007: In March, we introduced you to two of our favorite IgoUgo members—and staffers—with an inside look at their trips to Uganda and Nicaragua.
April 2007: Earth Day inspired a comprehensive rundown of IgoUgo eco-travelers’ adventures, plus environmentally sound trip ideas from St. John to Madagascar.
May 2007: Eastern Europe, and its devotees, took center stage as we searched for a solution to traveling on a weak US dollar.
June 2007: Hoping never to graduate from the pleasure of visiting college towns, we looked at some of your favorites, which include Padova, Italy, and St. Andrews, Scotland.
July 2007: True to its peak-travel-month status, July on the blog was big and busy. We’re partial, though, to an update on IgoUgo’s heroine-in-residence, stomps, and to our picks for the best family trips.
August 2007: August was for sharing our love of the travel blogosphere—and of hot dogs.
September 2007: Since September’s first post sparked a particularly insightful Message Board conversation, we followed it up with more probing questions for a top IgoUgo member in our first “5 Questions” feature.
October 2007: Our most prolific month was fueled by parties, from Nuit Blanche to Oktoberfest, while spanning all sorts of travel media.
November 2007: In one week, we debuted IgoUgo’s top 10 affordable European cities and hosted a carnival.
December 2007: The blog announced IgoUgo’s 2007 U GO! Award winners and raised a toast to our deserving writers and photographers—and to toasts themselves.
January 2008: We started our look ahead with a roundup of where you’re going this year, made some suggestions on the topic, and debuted yet another new feature, IgoUgo’s Week in Travel.
What’s next? You are! We’re looking for a guest blogger to kick off the IgoUgo Travel Blog’s second year. So send a pitch—your travel topic and a one-paragraph summary—to igougo.editors@igougo.com before Monday, February 11. We’ll choose our favorite and put one IgoUgo traveler on assignment. Now we’re going to go find some candles and make a wish—for another year of happy travels.
