This is the eighth year that NBC’s Today Show sent its host on a week-long “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?” expedition…and the eighth year that we weren’t invited. This time, we tagged along via the interactive, multimedia coverage the show dedicated to Matt’s trip. Besides the extensive videos, blogs, vlogs, quizzes, archives, and viewer-submitted content on the journey’s MSNBC webpage, there’s a minisite with more games and cubicle-friendly find-Matt features.
The trip kicked off with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington, which turned out to be packed with some seriously interesting facts. One stand-out detail: the facility is so big, it experiences its own weather patterns, with clouds forming and rain falling inside the factory.
The world’s ultimate road trip became more exotic as Matt popped up in Ireland, Dubai, and Cape Town over the next few days. We’re still watching footage from his stop in Bhutan and plotting the best way to visit this tiny country ourselves, with a little guidance from the Today Show crew.
Our wanderlust continues this week with the program’s features on wildlife around the world, beginning with Ann Curry’s visit to the endangered orangutans of Borneo. Can’t wait to see where we’re headed next—if only virtually.
