For their first Key West trip, RoBoNC and family planned quite an entrance, choosing to fly into Miami and drive the Overseas Highway through the Keys. Even when the road reached its end, they kept moving, hopping a boat for the 70-mile trip west to the Dry Tortugas.
The resulting journal, Fun and Sun in Key West, is a fabulous introduction to the southernmost vacation spot in the US, covering the Dry Tortugas and other visitor favorites like Duval Street and Truman’s Little White House (an obvious pick for one of IgoUgo’s esteemed history buffs).
RoBoNC's reviews, and the 60 photos that accompany them, are all sun and cheer, but the traveler does have some words of warning when it comes to getting to Dry Tortugas National Park: your choice of transport is, well, key. He chose “the boat, if you can call it that;” the result was a “horrific" ride and a severe bout of seasickness. His advice? Look into taking a larger ferry or seaplane. Other than that, this family's first trip to Key West was smooth sailing.
