MilwVon can’t get enough of Alaska, which works out well for us, because we can’t get enough of her Alaska trip journals. With six entries and a whopping 77 photos, her latest captures a February trip to party at Anchorage’s Fur Rondy.
In Rendezvous Alaskan Style MilwVon shares her secrets to a fantastic Anchorage getaway, including when to go (during the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous Festival in late February or early March); what to wear (prepare for “moderate” temperatures in the high 20s to high 30s); and where to eat (“Anchorage would give Milwaukee a run for their money on the number of bars per capita”).
She also brings us inside the Alaskan sled-dog world with tales from the Mushers’ Banquet and goes mushing with an Iditarod team--where she confirms the truth of the saying, “If you’re not the lead dog, the scenery never changes.”
Throw in a few snow sculptures, some Yummy Chummies, and a reindeer run, and we start to see why our traveler’s Alaska wish is to “figure out a way to get to Anchorage for the full ten days to take in all three days of racing, more local activities AND the start of the world-famous Iditarod.” Luckily, there's always next year.
