Photos of the Week: Warm and Wild

Photos of the Week: Warm and Wild Photo

It’s getting colder, and that means you’re getting the urge, like IgoUgo members MichaelJM and MagdaDH, to migrate to sunnier climes. Though marked by very different plumage, the tourist in autumn answers the same instinct for warmth as the goose, the duck, and the swan, albeit with less fancy modes of travel. The luckier (and more perceptive) tourists just might get a glimpse of the warm-weather natives. Our Photos of the Week are shots of the wild life.

Alpacas are common in Peru, as any traveler in the Andes can tell you. When MichaelIJM spotted three of them--one brown, two white--on the lawn of the Hotel Pakaritampu, he snapped a photo that frames the animals between a smattering of red leaves and the hotel’s own red roof. It doesn’t hurt that pink and crimson flowers round out the edges of the image.

Autumn in the North is spring in Australia, which is why MagdaDH chose early October to visit the beaches of Queensland.  She spotted a Flying Fox, better known as the largest bat in the world, resting on a tree branch in Yeppoon. The time of day--around sunset--hints at the bat’s nocturnal rhythms.
