This year, if you’re booked on a Delta, AirTran, or Virgin America flight between November 20 and Jan 2, Google Chrome has a not-so-secret Santa gift for you: free on-board Internet, making it even easier to buy that last-minute gift online as you’re flying home. Wi-Fi in the sky typically comes with a monetary catch of $5 to $12 for a few hours of in-flight connectivity (and a July survey estimated that only 1 in 50 passengers take advantage of the service anyway!). But if Wi-Fi were free, wouldn’t you whip out that laptop?

Google gave out a similar gift last year to 47 airports, so this year’s across-the-nation partnership amps it up to 30,000 airports (thanks, Google!). They estimate that their six-week present will bring the Web to 15 million people. If you’re one of them, take advantage, but if the mere thought of being surrounded by hundreds of people tapping away at their laptops and phones gives you a headache, add a pair of noise-blocking headphones to your wish list.
