Like to swim? Your ancestors probably did, which explains the wealth of lake- and seaside attractions in hoary cities across the globe. This week, two of our members, Joy S and Kez, demonstrated why so many of these havens are worth a visit. Our Photos of the Week are staying afloat.
The English town of Bath got its name from -- you guessed it -- a Roman bathhouse. When Manchester native Joy S traveled across the country to see it, she managed to capture both levels of the edifice in a single shot. That the group of tourists on the left appear so tiny makes clear how spacious the baths really are.
On the opposite side of the world, Kez found a peaceful oasis in otherwise-frenetic Tokyo. The buildings of the Imperial Palace boast the gorgeous curved roofs and serene vistas typical of Japanese shrines, and this house on the water is no exception. Note how Kez included the reflection of the house in the foreground.
