Venice has been called “Rome of the Ocean”, “The Floating City”, “City of Bridges” and even “The Most Romantic City in the World.” Its art, history and architecture bring visitors from all over the world. Currently, Venice is a hub of activity, with the Venice Biennale wrapping up at the end of November and the annual piano competition, the Premio Venezio, set to open November 7. Venice (which is actually built upon 118 small islands) and its Lagoon, were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. It was recently announced that you can purchase one of these islands--San Spirito--for a mere $28 million or 20 million euros!
Of its wonder, Garymarsh6 said it best: “Venice is such a spectacular magical place and exploring the little alleyways and streets with fantastic sights coming into view at every turn. It is absolutely amazing and fascinating and we spent a couple of hours just walking around and finding new vistas to photograph and admire.” It’s a timely opportunity to show off the stunning photos of our members’ most recent visits to this most beautiful city and what UNESCO describes as an “extraordinary architectural masterpiece.”
