This month on Airline Upgrades, we bring you yet another round of ways that airlines are making changes to the way they serve travelers. Especially as the summer rolls around, the amount of people utilizing airlines is increasing significantly. To keep up with the pace of the vacationers (and people using planes for business as well), changes and new ideas are constantly being implemented.
Southwest Airlines kicks off a new reality TV show tonight on the Discovery Communications channel.
On the fly shows an inside look as to how airlines operate with access to Southwest at about a dozen airports across the US. The show will bring to light the entire workings of an airline, from choosing tickets and purchasing them, to seat assignments, to deplaning, and will focus on interviews from both employees and travelers alike.
New York Airports are forging ahead with new technology that will make their airports more Jetson-esque. New virtual-projection hologram customer care aides will be around the airport guiding you in the right direction as well as providing information about flight status. The android will be in the airports this summer, and following a 6-month trial period may be renewed. Fliers can’t ask the assistant question yet, but that technology is on the to-do list if the airports decide to keep them.
Virgin Atlantic announced that phone calls will be possible for passengers on their flights from
London to
New York. This isn’t the only airline, however, and many planes are currently being equipped to allow travelers to use their phones while in the air. Phones must still be turned off during take-off and landing.
