The island boasts a robust national park system. Wai’anapanapa State Park is a great example of the island’s coastal geology, with its anchialine pools, caves, natural arches, seastacks and blowholes making for great photo ops. Winding through the popular Road to Hana brings you to Haleakala National Park, housing the massive Haleakala Volcano and Crater, and the waterfalls and pools of Oheo Gulch. The well-maintained paths and park accommodations (hikers can even rent cabins in the Haleakala Crater) make Maui a definite hiker’s destination.

If you think Hawaii, you think beaches, and with sandy spots like Ka’anapali Beach, Makena Beach and Hamoa Beach, the Valley Isle doesn’t disappoint. Nightly torchlighting and cliff-diving ceremonies grace the sands of Ka’anapali Beach nightly, while Makena Beach and Hamoa Beach provide calm, protected waters and clean sands perfect for family picnics.

The clear waters of Maui are rife with reef life, and provide some of the best snorkeling around. Green sea turtles abound in La Perouse Bay, while the waters of the Molokini Crater play home to over 250 species of tropical fish and is ranked in the top 10 snorkeling destinations worldwide.
