Not all of Hawaii's notable wildlife is waterbound, however. The island boasts a vast array of colorful and exotic species of birds, many of which can be glimpsed from the century-old Kilauea Lighthouse. Built in 1913, the lighthouse offers a bird's eye view at the nearby wildlife refuge, where white egrets roost in the thriving bird sanctuary.
