Photos of the Week: The Last Frontier

Fans of the Great White North hit pay dirt this week when member and Milwaukee native MilwVon uploaded hundreds of photos of her recent Alaskan adventure to IgoUgo. For us, her lucky judges, it was a real challenge--rough life, we know--to whittle them down to our picks for Photos of the Week.  Eventually, we settled on two panoramic shots of the gorgeous landscape.

Cloudy days are gloomy days--unless, of course, you’re traveling on the Glenn Highway in the Alaskan Interior. If that’s the case, you get to see the clouds dip in and out of snow-capped mountains in the distance. Kudos to MilwVon for steadying the camera during her drive.

Our second pick evinces Salvador Dali minus the trees-cum-elephants. The glacial river in the foreground reflects the bluish gray of the sky, which in turn casts a dark shadow on the ice sheet that takes up the center. Think of it as a reminder that winter isn’t really so bad.

Congrats Von on all of the nods on your latest Alaskan adventures. The photos were magnificent and I am looking forward to returning to the Final Frontier hopefully in 2013. Keep up the great work, my friend!

Thanks for the recognition! It's nice to know others appreciate the beauty of Alaska, even on the gloomy days :)
