All right, we get it. The sunrise or sunset photo, arguably the biggest cliché in the world of online travel, is bound to raise your hackles no matter how artful it is. Nothing says “package deals for the winter!” like a picture of dusk in Hawaii. But ignoring the best of these photos strikes us as a little extreme. The reason these photos proliferate to begin with is because the best are so good. With that in mind, we’ve selecting two pictures this week that prove this better than we can. Our Photos of the Week are a healthy start to your day.

In Varanasi, India, tammyhayano rose early to see the sunrise. When a group of fishermen drifted in front of her camera, she captured them in a photo that turned them into silhouettes. We’re guessing if we were in Varanasi, it wouldn’t be hard to actually get up in the morning.

Spring in D.C. is a time devoted to the cherry blossom. When Dutchnatasja decided to visit the city, she waited till early morning to snap a photo of a tree. The profusion of colors on display here speak for themselves, we think.
