Those of you with fond memories of The Love Boat may be under the impression that traveling by sea is pretty glamorous. We don’t deny that it can be -- especially if you’ve got the coin to afford it -- but we have to point out that this belief, like a lot of others derived from travel magazines and sitcoms, ignores a few everyday realities. Small personal boats are a way of life for millions of people across the globe. That’s why two of our photographers found inspiration in shots of more humble voyages. Our Photos of the Week are rigging up the mast.

In old towns in Europe, travelers will often see clotheslines crisscrossing narrow alleys. In Vietnam, it’s much more efficient (and scenic) to string up your clothes on a boat. Member tammyhayano took an unforgettable picture of a skiff with practical appeal. Its reflection only adds to the charm.

Nofootprint is showing a lot of confidence when she calls her photo “a perfect scene.” That said, we can’t help but agree -- the image of a father and son walking between rows of boats is about as idyllic as a picture can get. If you want to be the Norman Rockwell of south Asia, nofootprint, you’re off to a pretty good start.
